Artist Statement&Bio
‘’ I enjoy painting various subjects, among which the human form, with its dynamic features, expressions and emotions, holds endless fascination to me.
I find inspiration in different kinds of people. Every face and expression can tell a story, so my desire is to describe that face with a paint brush to bring out the unique story of that individual, which I hope to share with my viewers who might relate to that something we all have in common: humanity.”
Echo Baker, an artist based in Southern California, masterfully blends classical realism with a vibrant splash of impressionistic light and color in her evocative and captivating figurative and portrait works. Her paintings transcend mere physical likeness, capturing the essence and inherent beauty of her subjects with each brushstroke. Echo approaches her canvases much like a storyteller, weaving narratives through her representation of the human form, inviting viewers to delve into the stories encapsulated in her art.
Echo's artistic journey is as diverse as it is inspiring. With a background in graphic design and a master's degree in English, her career has spanned roles as a graphic designer, computer animator, and ESL teacher. These experiences, coupled with her personal life as a wife and mother of two, enrich her artistic perspective. In 2004, she returned to her roots, reigniting her passion for painting—a passion that she views as both a calling and a lifelong pursuit.
Her preferred medium is oil, though she occasionally explores watercolor and pastel, often employing the Alla Prima technique to achieve her desired effect. Echo has been recognized for her compelling work, earning accolades and awards from prestigious national and international exhibitions, such as Art Renewal Center(ARC), the Oil Painters of America (OPA), National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society (NOAPS), Mod Portrait in Spain, and the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts. Her commitment to her craft is further exemplified by her involvement with the US Coast Guard Art Program, where her donated paintings grace the walls of government buildings, serving both as art and homage.
Echo Baker's long-term ambition is to continually evolve and excel as an artist. Her journey is a testament to the power of art as a medium of expression and connection. Through her brush, she not only captures the physicality of her subjects but also their spirit, offering viewers a window into the untold stories that lie within each portrait.
